Yes. Ask the dealer to hold the car for an independent inspection and we arrange the time with them. You get the video, photos and report the same day, so you can decide without going back to the forecourt.
The car I am looking at is an ex-hire car. What extra do you check?
Paint depth on every panel for the cosmetic repairs hire cars collect, kerb damage to wheels and tyres, brake and clutch wear from many different drivers, and the diagnostic history. We also check that the fleet service record matches the mileage, because hire cars are serviced by time as much as by miles.
Can you tell if a car has been a private hire vehicle before?
Usually, yes. Roof-sign fixings or filled holes in the roof, plate holes in the boot or bumper, worn rear seats and door cards, mileage far too high for the age, and sometimes the licensing history. None of that is a reason not to buy if the price reflects it, and the report gives you the list to negotiate with.
I have found a car on a driveway in Houghton Regis or Leagrave. Do you inspect at a private seller's home as well as at dealers?
Yes. We inspect wherever the car is, as long as there is somewhere level to park it, the keys, V5C and service history are to hand and a short road test is possible. We can arrange all of that with the seller directly if you give us their number.
Do I need to be there?
No. We can inspect the car directly with the seller or dealer and send you the video review, photos and report afterwards, then talk it through with you on the phone.
Will you tell me whether to buy the car?
