What the EV battery report gives you

The traction battery is one of the most important parts of a used EV. Our test gives you a battery-specific assessment, on its own or alongside the rest of the vehicle inspection.

State of Health (SOH)

A clear battery-health percentage produced from the battery-management information available from the vehicle.

Customer Report

A separate Autel battery health report to keep, on its own or with your Pro Vehicle Inspections pre-purchase inspection report.

CARA Approved® Method

The Autel battery health test method we use carries the Battery Health Check CARA Approved® certification mark.

Why it matters

A normal diagnostic scan and an EV battery SOH test are not the same thing.

Every inspection includes diagnostic checks appropriate to the vehicle. The EV Battery State of Health test goes further by running the dedicated Autel battery-health procedure and producing a specific traction-battery SOH report. Book it on its own for £100, or add it to an inspection for £49.99.

That gives a used-EV buyer another useful piece of evidence when deciding whether the car is worth buying and whether the asking price reflects the battery condition.

What's included

  • Dedicated high-voltage EV traction-battery health assessment on compatible vehicles
  • State of Health (SOH) result based on available vehicle/BMS battery data
  • Autel end-customer battery health report
  • Battery findings considered alongside the wider pre-purchase inspection, when you book both

Compatibility and available metrics vary by vehicle. The Autel EV Battery Health Test is based on battery-management data available from the vehicle and is not a full independent charge/discharge capacity test.

Used Tesla & EV buyers

Buying a used Tesla? Check the battery before you pay.

We inspect used Teslas and other electric cars before you buy. On older EVs the battery matters most, so we recommend adding the £49.99 State of Health report.

What you get on a used Tesla

  • A full pre-purchase inspection, with diagnostic checks appropriate to the vehicle
  • The optional £49.99 Autel State of Health report on compatible vehicles
  • WhatsApp us the model and year and we'll confirm compatibility before you book

EV Battery Health Check FAQs

Straight answers before you book.

What is EV battery State of Health (SOH)?

State of Health is a percentage used to describe the condition of an electric vehicle's high-voltage traction battery. The Autel EV Battery Health Test obtains and evaluates battery-management data available from the vehicle to produce an SOH result and battery health report.

Is the Autel EV battery test CARA Approved?

Yes. The Autel battery health test method we use carries the Battery Health Check CARA Approved® certification mark. The approval applies to the Autel test method, not to Pro Vehicle Inspections as a separate certification body.

How much does an EV battery health check cost?

The EV battery health check is £99.99 on its own. If you're having the car inspected as well, the EV Battery State of Health Report is £49.99 on top of an Pro Vehicle Inspections pre-purchase vehicle inspection.

Can I book the battery check without an inspection?

Yes. For £99.99 we come to the car, run the CARA Approved® Autel EV Battery Health Test and give you the State of Health report, without inspecting the rest of the car. If you want the whole car checked too, add the report to a Standard or Premium inspection for £49.99.

Is this the same as a full independent battery capacity test?

No. The Autel EV Battery Health Test is a diagnostic SOH assessment based on data available from the vehicle and its battery management system. It is not a full independent charge-and-discharge capacity test.

Can every electric or plug-in hybrid car be tested?

Vehicle compatibility and the battery data available vary by manufacturer, model and software version. Send us the registration or vehicle details before booking if you want us to confirm compatibility.

Can you check the battery on a plug-in hybrid?

Yes. The EV Battery State of Health report is available for compatible plug-in hybrids as well as fully electric cars, on its own for £99.99 or added to an inspection for £49.99. Send us the make, model and year before booking and we'll confirm your car is compatible.

Can you inspect a used Tesla?

Yes. We inspect used Teslas and other electric cars before you buy. Every inspection includes diagnostic checks appropriate to the vehicle, and on older EVs we recommend adding the £49.99 EV Battery State of Health report where the car is compatible. Send us the model and year before booking and we'll confirm compatibility.

Inspect the whole car — and the EV battery.

Choose a Standard or Premium inspection, then add the EV Battery State of Health Report for £49.99. Only need the battery checked? Book it on its own for £99.99.
